Chuck Fenda: The Poor People’s Defender and Reggae Icon
Chuck Fenda, born Leshorn Whitehead in Brooklyn and raised in St. Catherine, Jamaica, is an internationally acclaimed reggae artist whose career spans nearly three decades. Known as the “Poor People’s Defender,” his conscious lyrics and authentic representation of Jamaican and Rastafarian culture have made him a true ambassador of reggae music.

He first rose to prominence under King Jammy with early singles like “Jah It’s All About You” before joining Fifth Element Records, where hits such as “Life Ruff Out Deh,” “I Swear,” and “Respect Mama” laid the foundation for his breakthrough album Better Days (2005). His Greensleeves release The Living Fire (2007) produced the worldwide hit “Coming Over” with Cherine Anderson, cementing his place as a global force in reggae. He followed with Fulfillment (2009) and continued to release impactful singles, including the anthems “Good Man in Your Life” and “Call on Me.”

Fenda’s latest album, Eternal Fire (2023), showcases his enduring commitment to roots reggae with tracks like “Gideon Hot,” “Song For Mama,” and the title song “Eternal Fire”. In 2025, he launched the Can’t Stop The Fire Tour, first igniting stages across the U.S. West Coast before heading to Europe and the UK. His performances drew sold-out crowds at One Love and Music Festival (Germany), Bournemouth Reggae Weekender (UK), and Reggae Jam (Germany), culminating in a powerful appearance before 40,000 fans at Birmingham’s Jamaica 0121 Festival—leaving audiences in tears and solidifying his triumphant return.
