
Ian Haywood aka Ian Sweetness was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Gifted with talent, this versatile singer of culture Reggae music and Lover’s Rock, started at the age of nine with the church choirs. Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, Frankie Paul and the old school Reggae foundation artists are his greatest inspiration. His first recording was at the age of nineteen at the Creative Sounds Studio in Kingston. The tune’s title was “Rude Bwoy” feat. Simpleton. After that, he started to work with sound systems in his area, and from there he began to spend time in studios around Jamaica, such as Arrows Studio, King Tubby’s, King Jammy’s, Penthouse, Bobby Digital, and more.
Ian recorded tunes with different producers and labels, for example, Jah Life, and Bobby Digital, and was based at Arrows Studios, but still working with producers in Jamaica & overseas.
Ian Sweetness was managed by Penthouse Records, then Supreme Promotions of Sting. Ian started international performances in England in 1993. He recorded songs such as “You Light My Night Up” with Japanese producers, and collaborated with deejays like Ranking Taxi in Japan,
In 1995, Ian moved to the U.S.A. after the loss of his parents. He started recording with different producers and labels in Brooklyn such as Jah Life and Don One. After additional performances within New York and around the USA, he eventually moved full-time to Miami, Florida. In 2000, he released “Little Green Apples” which went to number one on Reggae charts worldwide.
Ian Sweetness prepared for his first album release, “Slow & Steady”, by putting some of the most powerful lyrics and music together. Some of the producers for this album included Niney (The Observer), Royal Pyramid Label, and Audio Sweetness Productions (his own label).
More collaborations followed and Ian released another album “Lovers Rock Moods”in 2015. He released additional singles on compilations with Joe Fraser and VP Records in the 2010s and continues to be active in the studio and on the stage.
At present Ian Sweetness has several projects in the pipeline so watch out for this rising star.
